1. The Design That Started with a Pause
YCP’s (Also known as YoungChickenPox) signature wave hoodie was born during a creative break. The designer hit a wall a few years ago and started watching Studio Ghibli films with his mom. One night, after watching Ponyo, he was struck by how water moved in the animation. That inspiration became the base for the hoodie’s surreal wave-like stitching pattern.
2. The Handmade Process Of The Hoodies
YCP uses a consew chain stitching machine and manually guides every section — a process that takes hours. It’s labor-intensive enough to cause literal back pain. “I had back pains from sitting at my machine for a few days after finishing,” he said. Real art takes a toll.
3. Limited by Design, Not Demand
YCP’s upcoming release isn’t about mass sales. He’s only aiming to pre-sell five of the $650 chainstitch wave hoodies. They’re personal, sculptural, and intentionally rare. For those looking for something more accessible, he’s also dropping two new colorways — “The Overcast Clouds on a Relaxing Morning” and “The Lavender Lotion My Mom Used to Use” — both made this winter during a nostalgic period. 4. Every Stitch Has a Memory
What makes YCP stand out in the streetwear space is the emotion behind the execution. These colorways weren’t just picked to look good — they’re tied to memories. “I felt that if I wanted to make a new colorway of the wave hoodie it would have a memory attached to it,” he said. These garments are wearable time capsules, made to carry meaning.
5. From One-Time Concept to Evolving Art Form
The wave pattern isn’t going anywhere. While it started as a one-off concept, it continues to evolve with every new piece. YCP says even changing the color or garment type makes the piece feel new. “The design is really good and it continues to excite me,” he said. “Every time I make something new with it, it’s different.”
6. Drop Info & Giveaway
The full hoodie drop goes live this Friday, and the brand is hosting a giveaway ahead of the launch. To enter, fans just need to comment and join the YCP broadcast channel — one winner will be picked at random the day before the release. The hoodies ship within three weeks.
