KC9Design’s First Poster Collection: Celebrating UK Underground Art Scene

Introduction

KC9Design’s new poster collection captures the energy of UK underground culture, Black British music, and the raw emotions behind today’s most vibrant scenes.

We sat down with the artist to talk about the stories behind the posters, the challenges of putting out this debut collection, and what’s next for KC9Design.

Q&A With KC9Design

Q1: What inspired you to launch your first poster collection, and why did you choose these posters to kick it off?

KC9Design:
“For my first collection, I wanted to explore different themes and aesthetics with the style I’ve recently developed. I chose these posters because they resonated with people at my first pop-up — which gave me the confidence to put them out.

I’ve always admired artists who put their work into the world. This collection taught me so much — from months of critiquing each piece to making sure it felt perfect, to designing and building my own website.”

Our Thoughts:
KC9’s debut feels polished and intentional, you can see the extra effort in both the design and branding. It’s inspiring to see a first collection launch with such focus and care.

Q2: Your posters highlight UK music and the underground scene. How did you choose these themes, and what do they mean to you personally?

KC9Design:
"The UK underground scene is a huge passion of mine. I love the music and constantly find myself discovering new artists.

For me, it’s about showing love and giving flowers to the people shaping culture right now. J Hus’ Legacy’s new album Black British Music especially inspired me.

I wanted to channel those emotions into my art and also pay homage to him from drawing the Lewisham block to using the colours of the British flag to reflect the essence of Black British music.”

Our Thoughts:
The cultural references add real depth, it’s more than just bold graphics. KC9 is telling stories that represent his community and the artists who inspire him.

Q3: Out of all the posters in this drop, which one feels the most personal or meaningful to you?

KC9Design:
“For me, it’s First Steps. It tells the story of a boy beginning his journey — he’s just left home, chasing his passion.

I relate to that deeply because I’ve just moved to London to focus on my career as a freelance artist and designer. The colours in that piece also really speak to me; they complement each other so well and carry the emotion of the story.”

Our Thoughts:
This is the kind of storytelling we love, KC9 isn’t just dropping art . The posters feel like snapshots of the culture he’s connected to.

Q4: What was the biggest challenge you faced while creating this first collection either in design or production?

KC9Design:
“The biggest challenge I’ve faced with this collection is one I’m still working through now, which is building a community and audience.

I know my art is strong, but creating that community doesn’t happen overnight. It’s tough because it can make you second-guess your skills and experience, but I also see it as part of the journey. Every step I take, even the struggles, is teaching me something that will shape my future drops.”

Our Thoughts:
It’s refreshing to hear an artist be this open about the challenges of growing a brand. KC9’s honesty about the grind makes the story even more relatable.

Q5: Now that your first collection is out, what’s next for KC9Design any future drops, clothes, or collaborations we should look out for?

KC9Design:
*“My next focus is building that community and being more personal with how I share my art.

I’ve realised I need to let people into my world — showing my thought process, my face, and the stories behind the work.

I want my journey to inspire others as much as it inspires me, so you can expect more drops, more honesty, and hopefully collaborations down the line.”*

Our Thoughts:
We’re excited to see KC9 lean into storytelling even more. The next drops and potential collabs already sound promising for both fans and collectors.
